Legacy

By Vicky Pointing

His eyes—one blue one green, just like the originals—gaze upon the trophies and photographs shelved above his bed. He snatches up the image of an old girlfriend, one who bawled at the funeral, but all these years later, says he’s an abomination. He doesn’t mind, relishing any diversion from an exactly repeated life that thrusts him towards school team captaincy and bad relationships.

His fingernails tap against the photo frame, their fluorescence persisting in spite of what the doctors said. They mark him out as a duplicated son. Unlike his predecessor, he intends to avoid heartbreak and tall buildings.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

I agree with Sue. You’ve got a super opening here; it hooked me thoroughly, made me wonder just who this guy is and where he is going. . . This opening begs to be expanded into a longer story!
