Licked

November 23, 2020 7 Comments

By Matt Garabedian

I glower at my human. Wet fur makes me look scrawny.

I’m ashamed that she could force me into this wretched sink, but to also take photos for her Instagram? I cannot endure this insult. I will kill her in her sleep tonight.

A bubble pops and tickles my nose. The colors in the room warm and her braying turns to laughter. My whiskers twitch in a most curious fashion. I remember pouncing other kittens, tussling and laughing. My indignation floats away like the air from within the soap bubble.

Upon further consideration, I think I’ll let her live another day.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Delightful! And illustrates purrfectly the capricious nature of cats.

    Cute.
I remember reading an article about research into cats. It said if your cat looks at you as if it wants to kill you, it probably does.

Haha. That’s a great shift in perspective. Love those details ‘braying’ and the colours ‘warm’ to get the cat’s eye view 🙂

Aaah! I would never dare bath my cat! She’s 20 years old and wouldn’t hold with that sort of thing!
Seriously, loved the humour. Loved the cat pov – so frowned upon these days, but wrongly.
