The small blade nicked Carl’s chest and produced a trail of blood.
“Hey!” Carl said with a wince. “Give me a heads up first. I came here to be healed, not abused.”
“I know,” the bearded man said. “But you also realize you should have…”
“I know.”
“So you also know pain is inevitable. Prepare yourself.”
Carl made two fists and took a breath. As the blade sliced through his chest, his skin felt like fire. He screamed.
“Breathe,” the bearded man said.
“I am!”
The knife went deeper. More screams.
“Maybe next time you’ll check what your insurance will cover…”
