The enormous cavern filled with a purple smoke that dissipated into an intoxicating grey-black.
Linora experienced a high like none other known to her.
She would’ve laughed, had she not stood ten paces from the dragon’s snout.
She planned to slay the beast and win the favour of her queen.
It had been all Linora wanted in her eight years as marshal to the men-at-arms at court.
Favour meant access to the treasury, which in turn would pay off her debts.
Linora drew her sword from its scabbard and placed the whet of the blade upon the dragon’s snout.
And prayed.
