Lost in the Fog

March 5, 2025 12 Comments

By Paul J Clark

It was foggy. It was often foggy these days. On clear days, Norma would live her best life. Nights out at Club Americana or the Marquee Club were her favourite. She wondered why that nice chap who regularly flirted with her never called her anymore.

It was the clear days that Norma’s daughter, Sarah, hated the most. Those were the days she had to explain for the hundredth time “that nice chap” was dead. Her dad was dead. Those clear days were the days Norma couldn’t see through her fog and recognise Sarah. Going back in time was her superpower.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

“On clear days, Norma would live her best life.” What an achingly resonant line. Great piece.
