“Dad, I can’t even buy you a house,” said Vinay with anguish. All his friends who settled abroad had bought homes for their parents.
“What am I going to do with a house?” asked his father calmly, setting aside his newspaper.
“But everyone…” he began weakly.
“I have you here with me. Life is not about things. It doesn’t matter what you have or buy now. I am happy. Are you?” asked his father.
“Of course,” said Vinay truthfully.
“Then nothing else matters. We need not compete when there is no competition,” said his father, who returned to his newspaper.
Such wise words written wonderfully
A lot of wisdom in that last line.
A thoughtful piece. I enjoyed that.
So wise. So true
Beautifully written. I can see father and son having this conversation.
Loved the wisdom in “We need not compete when there is no competition.” Great story.
