Lost Translation

Lost Translation

By Marzia Rahman

Rendition is tough. In a way, paradoxical.

One must pay attention to every detail. Moreover, it should flow well. A mountain spring swishing into sea. In this arduous journey, clarity shouldn’t be lost. But it does and later washes up on some far away shore.

How would one translate six hundred refuges in a sinking boat? Who’d take them—the sea or the shore? Who is the better editor of human sorrows?

Buried under their own pain and pathos, people refuse. The sea proves friendly, filling the white foams with poetry. Too many of them.

Rendition is done. Waiting for publication.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Powerful imagery in this translation metaphor. A brilliant rendition and fitting tribute to this tragic loss of life.
