Diana lay awake listening to the wind tapping against her window.
Click. She turned on the lamp. The clock read, 4:12 a.m.
Rolling over, Diana looked at the empty space in her bed. She still slept on the other side, even though he was gone. He was lost to her and she knew it. The wind began to speed up becoming a low, mournful whine. Diana cringed at the sound.
She stroked the space where he should have been and then forcing herself to sleep she flicked the light off.
Outside, her lost retriever sat pawing and howling at the door.
V nice! Thank you.

Great surprise revelation at the end. You always do a great job of leading the reader towards one assumption and then surprising us.
Thank you!
Anyone who has ever lost a true love will appreciate this one. The dog pawing and howling at the door further heightens the sadness of loss.
Thank you, Bobby!
You had me guessing until the end. Nice job of keeping the reader hooked.
Thank you so much!
