Lunch Romance

March 12, 2016 10 Comments

Lunch Romance

By Simon Hole

I drive here every day during lunch break, even though it’s seven minutes each way and I only get thirty. I don’t come for the coffee, which is middling at best, and certainly not for the doughnuts. I come for “Hi, my name is Suzanne.” Most days she works the drive-thru.

Suzanne is beautiful: long dark hair, twinkling green eyes, and a gorgeous smile that flashes when she passes me my coffee.

I always say, “Keep the change, Suzanne.”

She always replies, “Thank you, hon.”

I’m in love. Maybe tomorrow I’ll wear my name badge so she’ll know who I am.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Oh, that’s lovely. I really want him to wear his name badge. Great work in so few words.

Very sweet. I can empathize. For I was shy once.

I really enjoyed the simplicity of this tale, and how you have taken an otherwise anonymous consumerist drive through, and produced a romance.
The days Suzanne is not there must be a real bummer.

Neat, nicely worded, and feels like the beginning of something.
