His meteoric rise in business was even the subject of a book.
He started in the mailroom, and was once nearly fired, but he knew he’d be fine. He didn’t have much of an education, so he took some night school courses, flunking algebra. There he met his first wife, and together they had a collection of children. Over the years he lost track of some of their names. But for some reason he was always able to remember Betty—must have been her lyric eyes.
Maybe he’d be able to call Betty tonight. One more drink and he’d be fine.
A very sad, prosaic tale….although country-and-western music aficionados might find it lyrical indeed.
His first and only love, Betty – perhaps the bottle has become his imaginary love. Sad indeed.
