Making it Right

By Krystyna Fedosejevs

He forced himself to look at her face.

As was often the case, he didn’t know what to say. Yet, this time the wording had to be right.

He recalled their partnership. How effortlessly she spoke while he stumbled. How her strength projected beyond words like when she cared for his ailing brother despite the feud he had with him. She, who inspired him to build confidence during his unemployment.

Today, he found himself milling through phrases, mindful of a time limit.

“I will always love you,” he blurted in the end.

He felt her approval as the coffin lid closed.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

This was moving and powerful. You captured the kinds if thoughts that can go through your mind at such a time.

Another of what I call bittersweet stories. The brief scene you describe is haunting, and lingers long after it has been read.

Loved the tenderness of this and his taking time to think about all that. Truly remarkable little story. I applaud you.
