He was an influential contemporary of Hitler and Mussolini. But sadly—for his hatred towards humanity in general and his malign machinations were deserving of awe—he has been forgotten. No books are written about him, expounding pallid reasons for his inexplicable evil; no tragedies are acted in which enmities incurred cause his much-celebrated undoing.
We search for him in the nooks and crannies of the world. We are historians. We discover traces tucked away in closets, in ancient memorandums, in tattered letters. Exhilarated, we prepare and preen. We present our findings to the esteemed establishment. The reply: Rejected. Man Unknown.
This was brilliant! As important as it is to know our histories, so much evil gets swept under the rug.
