Mango in Spring

June 12, 2021 3 Comments

By Ellen Lavender

It had started like any other Saturday. Yoga, breakfast, out to tackle Borough Market before the lunchtime crowds.

She’d seen him before; tall, bearded, handsome—out of her league. Their fingers touched as they both reached for the last Alphonso mango in the crate. He’d said it was hers if she’d have a drink with him. She’d agreed, laughing as the grocer replenished the stock behind them while he’d paid.

Eight years ago, today.

“Happy anniversary, my darling,” he said, kissing her growing stomach and passing her the freshly sliced mango he’d bought for her each Saturday in late spring since.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
