Man’s Best Friend

Man’s Best Friend

By Ella Syverson

Ever wanted the whole world to yourself? Well, I have it now. What’s left of it. Barren wastelands, mined craters. Seas of tree stumps logged decades ago. The ocean, clogged so thick with trash that I can stand on top of it. Vast metropolises of skeleton steel, where only ghosts live.

Some days I try to live. Some days I try to die. Some days I make art. Some days I wage war. One day I explored, and I found him. Almost dead, curled in an alley. Fur: long, matted. Hungry, injured, lonely. I saved his life; he saved my sanity.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

    I’m curious…did he/she find a rabbit or a dog or a mouse or a man?
