Twenty-six years on, Pete and Sara were the only couple from their college friends who hadn’t divorced. They wondered if they were missing something—a boat maybe? They took a cruise to find out.
They searched everywhere: Maui, Kauai, the Big Island. In a helicopter, Sara grabbed Pete’s hand as they looked straight down into Kilauea’s erupting fissures. But between dinner, dancing, and drunken sex, they couldn’t find any problems with their relationship. So they booked the same itinerary for next year to look again.
All they have to do now is make it 358 more days without everything falling apart.
Great concept that even if it appears you might be getting it mostly right and are satisfied ~ there’s a perceived possibility that at the same time there might be something wrong depending on which way your viewpoint is. Like the continuous loop and repeat almost as though there is no chance of us mere humans getting it right.
That couple should just try, try again. As the ancient philosopher once said, the unexplored relationship is not worth living. Nice work. Jerry
But they were wondering what they had missed in why they had survived all those years… or have I misunderstood? Touching, sad – but does imply another year…
I love this (in the 38th year of marriage)! Really good.
I loved this idea!
This is strangely emotional! Love it!
