She kneeled down and looked under the car and said, “Meow, mami.”
She got up and faced me. I couldn’t help but notice her rosy stained cheeks, cracked from the cold air, and the smile on her face. She repeated, “The meow, mami,” and I replied, “Did you see a cat?”
She kneeled over again but this time didn’t say a word. She got up and I noticed the sadness in her big round eyes. She looked at me and asked me, “Where did it go?”
Where there once was a glow of happiness, a devastating moment had now taken over.
