I am tree. Yes. Tree know English. English hard. Tree take very, very long time to learn English. Only one day a year tree can speak. Yes. Tree can speak. Speak on first day of spring. Yes. Yes. But only speak if spoken to. Make it very hard. Many years humans spoke to tree. Tree very fluent in Latin. Can speak poetry in Latin and sing songs and make speeches. Tree was big hit. Made breakthrough in Classical oratory. But tree never hear Latin today. Now strange English. And no one speak to tree anymore. They have forgotten how. Tree lonely.
Sad story; excellent and classic comment on the failure or inability to communicate. Liked it.
Such meaning.
Touching…
Very good! Some people scoff a what they call “tree huggers”. They do not understand what it is to have reverence for a living thing. It seems that those same people are very willing to send other people’s children off to war. I had to remove many tall pines that were too near my house. I went to each one and put my hand on the trunk and apologized for what I was about to do. I have a poem you might like, titled “Spirit Walk”. If you would like it, I will send it along.
I really like this story. I think I would have broken this up into multiple paragraphs instead of one large mass of text. I think it would be easier to read that way. (Just a suggestion!)
Nice metaphor for our disconnect with the natural world.
