It’s midnight and the pier is empty. Crashing waves and glistening moonbeams provide me company and solace. Tonight, I need them more than ever. He always loved the salty air and the piney scents of redwoods. We spent many summers and weekends enjoying them both: camping, hiking, even surfing.
Whether we were good at any of it was never the point. We had fun together. We grew up together. I’m not out here alone with an urn because I want to be. It’s the last place I thought I’d be.
