Migrant

March 12, 2026 3 Comments

By Eric Delong

“So, you claim to be a Canadian,” the ICE agent said. “Let’s see your passport and visa.”

“You gotta be joking, mister. I don’t need documentation. According to the Migratory Fowl Act, I have a right to be here.”

“Well, that’s all changed. The current administration requires that all Canadians visiting the USA must have a passport. If you don’t, you will be deported back to Canada immediately.”

“Brrr! It’s freezing up there. Please, can’t this wait until spring?”

“No, I’m arresting you.”

“Try to catch me!” And the Canada goose took wing and flew away, honking in a mocking tone.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Ha, ha! Fun story. Reminds me of the time W’s newly-invented TSA refused Cat Stevens entry into the US after 9/11. Of course, he’d changed his name to Yusuf Islam, so obviously a scary terrorist-type. Not!

Truth to power, Brother! Truth to power.

Whatever our views on immigration, I think we all can agree that this is funny! Thanks, Eric!

From a Canadian, non-goose, I am worried that the ICE agent took a pot shot at the goose as he/she flew away.
Loved your reference to a “Migratory Fowl Act!”
