Finished eating, Joe licked the salsa off his fingers. He stopped when the phone rang.
The warden answered it, listening and speaking softly.
Joe hung his head, remembering those two teens. He’d never meant to hurt anybody, only wanting money. He’d pay for his mistake in an hour.
The warden finished the call, turning to Joe. “The Supreme Court’s halting the execution. Guess that wasn’t your last meal.”
Joe gasped, staring at his tray. All that remained were the abundant Taco Bell wrappers.
His stomach rumbling, Joe looked over at the toilet. He dreaded having to sit on it all night.
punishment indeed! – Nice one.
Excellent! Powerfully tells a story in 101 words.
Unpredictable ending – very difficult to pull off in 101 words 🙂
Taco Bell gets a bad reputation again. Made me laugh though. ?
Taco Bell wouldn’t be my choice for my last meal, but I liked the ending.
Cleverly set up and executed. 😉
Nice twist!
I good story.
