The pearlescent color glides across her lips. Earrings are secured by trembling hands. She leans close to the mirror, looking herself in the eyes. “It’ll be okay.”
She nervously checks the clock again.
‘The Climb’ by Miley Cyrus lands on her music shuffle. It had always been one of her favorite songs. Now it’s her anthem. She believes this is a nod from the universe that everything will work out.
“They’re going to love you,” she promises herself with hopeful uncertainty.
Tonight she’ll introduce herself to her terrified but receptive parents; finally proving to them that they don’t have a son.
