Mommy Forever

May 31, 2022 7 Comments

By Julie

I sweep him up. For a heartbeat he’s suspended in space, then lands in my arms. Nose to nose, I count the freckles on his cheeks. He giggles.

He skips along the path, singing, “Little ladybug…” He’s my boy and I’m still Mommy. Soon I’ll be Mom. Soon he’ll say, “I just don’t want to hug you all the time, Mom.”

I know this because it’s happened four times already and it’s always the same: the boy grows up.

This boy will grow up, too, but there will be another. That first baby tooth had enough DNA for a thousand boys.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Wow -this is taking the obsession with being a mother to infinity and beyond! Someone once asked my mother why she had 6 children and she said, ‘there’s something about having a small child in your arms, isn’t there?’ This story illustrates that sentiment a thousand times over.

Great story with a good twist. Hope she’s rich, as all those birthdays to celebrate is going to get expensive!

Oh no, I hadn’t thought of that. Time for a sequel called “Running out of money forever.”
