‘Mori,’ my parents called me. They didn’t know it means death.
My name caused some hilarity when I volunteered for Project Dormouse, an experiment in human hibernation. When a dormouse hibernates, its metabolic rate falls, and it can survive for months without food or much in the way of breathing.
We ‘dormice’ were kept underground, so we were kept in the dark about the terrorist nuclear attack which brought about Armageddon.
When we emerged blinking into the sun, the look on the faces of the ragged survivors reminded us of the origin of the dormouse.
It was originally a dessert dish.
Oh, yeah! Nailed it. Bravo.
I really liked how you started out so innocently, then hit us with the ravages of war, then ending on a dessert. So well crafted. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
What a suspense! Amazing.
lol… nice surprise end line
I just loved it.
Rather belated thanks for all the positive comments.
