He slouched forward, the weight of fear pushing him. The restaurant surrounded him with clinking and buzzing and that only made him more nervous.
He couldn’t stop himself from thinking, What if she doesn’t come?
His heart plummeted into his roiling stomach as his mind floated to the picture he’d been fixated on for weeks. Soft blue eyes, luminous blonde hair, Diana…
He dared look up and beamed when he saw the woman of his dreams walk through the door. She looked around, eyes passing over him, and left.
He realized too late he had forgotten to change his profile picture.
This is quite the sucker punch! But I have to admit some confusion. I’m assuming he had a really nice profile picture that wasn’t realistic enough, and so the woman didn’t recognize him. But why would he have “changed” it so she would? And how could he if it was a lie – for wouldn’t she have possibly *not” come at all?
Great story, and in the next scene he chases after her, right?
A very fun read, Danielle. Nice job. 🙂
The ending was unexpected and funny. Nice job.
Brilliant.
I like this story. So many unintentional missed datesalong with catfishing make it believable and sad.
