My Wallet

My Wallet

By Krystyna Fedosejevs

I stroked her hair. Felt the warmth of her eyes.

“Grandma, where were you?” I managed tearfully.

Silence.

In the days she wandered, my mind went to the past. Summer visits. Cherries. Grandma let me enjoy handfuls. I cuddled her dog and cats.

In her absence, my wallet was stolen; ripped out of my jacket while I shopped. The store clerk couldn’t catch him.

I had no hope of seeing it again. Not until this morning. A police officer returned it saying someone had discovered it in a garbage receptacle.

Money taken. Credit cards too. Photo of my late Grandma untouched.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

I endorse Pattyan’s comments. It reads like a movie. Would make a great short film.

Thank you Barry and Tony for your comments.

That’s a different idea, “short film”. Barry, do you know anyone who’d be interested?
For now, I am content to leave as it, a piece of flash fiction.

My wallet has been stolen twice but the photos weren’t stolen, so I can sure relate to this! Wonderful!

Thanks, Naomi, for sharing your experience. At the end, it’s those photos that are most precious.
