Midnight and I was still wide-awake.
“There’s only one thing to do,” I said, to myself. “Eat.”
I held my breath as I passed Mother’s room, just in case she was listening for me.
Dashing into the kitchen, I gulped frantically for air. I’d counted twenty seconds; no wonder I wasn’t on the swim team. I nearly died!
After recovering slightly, I swung open the fridge door and the dazzling interior light revealed to me, glorious…nothing! Well, two carrots and an onion. Gross.
I stood transfixed, deep in misery and even deeper in starvation— My second near-death experience in one night.
Such a believable scene. Haven’t we all been there? Great!
Lol, your speaking in past tense, it never ends, mum just changes to someone else. Thank you.
Nice, I liked the dramatics ,,, well done.
Thank you so much
I’ve always been a confirmed nighttime snack eater, so I can easily relate to this story. Well done.
Wonderful! ‘Near death’ indeed. I feel like that whenever I do something sneaky too!
Brings a new meaning to the concept of NDEs, minus the flashbacks!
