Rob worried about his girlfriend. Maria walked alone every night to and from her job. Rob’s own work schedule prevented him from driving her. Maria was a bit of an innocent and downplayed the danger.
Recently, there’d been a rash of murders around town—all stabbings of young women out alone at night. Rob didn’t want Maria to become one of them.
Rob dialed Maria’s cell phone to check on her. Maria ignored the call. At the time, she was busy wiping blood off her knife, using a gaudy polyester scarf she’d taken from around the neck of her latest victim.
