Night Sky

NIGHT SKY

By Tony Press

Grandpa bought me my Dick Tracy watch and he liked it as much as I did. He said before he died they’d put a man on the moon and we walked outside to look at the night sky. He told me about Lucky Lindbergh and his flight across the Atlantic and all the parades that followed but when we came back to the house his brother, Uncle Brevard, laughed at him and said “yeah, and one day people will walk around picking up dogshit.” Uncle Brevard’s wife lit up another Lucky Strike and rolled her eyes. She was good at it.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Great read! Congratulations, Tony. The two parts that really strike me in this: “they’d put a man on the moon and we walked outside to look at the night sky” and “rolled her eyes. She was good at it.” Nice capture.

Thanks for your kind (& entertaining) words. Here’s a link to three little poems that came out today – they add up to about 70 words. http://thestaresnest.com/2015/07/11/tony-press-three-poems/
