Night Vision

January 27, 2023 16 Comments

By FC Pierce

It’s late. A brand new day, if you believe the glowing numbers on the bedside clock. My room cloaked in darkness feels more dead than alive. Am I dreaming or hallucinating? It’s hard to know the difference these days. Bedroom spaces shape-shift. First an intruder, hunch-backed and leering, then an old woman carrying a sack. Now a shadow figure rises from the bottom of my bed, its fingers tugging on my quilt, and I see her face—40 years gone—wrapped within the flickering shades of grey and black. Still, I know my mother and I’m afraid all over again.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
