I couldn’t be happier. Another Christmas is almost over. Sure, my daughter’s upset, but personally I’m quite relieved. I’m happy she’s had fun, but like so many during the holiday season, all of it saddens me. Divorced. Single. Living at home. No gifts. No cards. Everything’s dreary until Chloe runs up to me with a small present. It’s a fruit roll-up. My favorite: Strawberry. As I savor the artificial flavors, I realize I don’t have it so bad after all. I’m blessed with a daughter who’s given me one gift before the stroke of midnight. And I truly couldn’t be happier.
Love it!
And I love that you loved it! Thank you kindly.
A sweet and poweful little treat – thank you!
Thank you, Walter! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Your comment made my day!
The narrator couldn’t be happier the madness surrounding Christmas is over, and by the end of the telling the raconteur still couldn’t be happier–but for a different reason: Christmas is over, but his deepening relationship with his daughter is just starting to take root. A charming story–perfect for this time of year.
After I read this (which I very much enjoyed) I read all the comments. Your comment pinpoints exactly what I was thinking and feeling.
Great story Noah, I am sure your daughter loves you very much! 🙂
Kia ora (Hi) Noah – congrats on a great story.
I particularly like the layers and contrast between good & bad, happy & sad, and night & day 🙂
I love this story. I think it is very touching on many levels, and you feel all the emotions along with the narrator. It feels very real and paints the picture well. Always something to be thankful for!
It is positive but expresses the sadness many feel during the holidays. Lots of behind the scene emotion.
Hi Annie. Is this the word maven I love?
Isn’t this a great story?
Sometimes it is the simplest gifts of the expression of love that we find the most valuable. Thank you for reminding us with this lovely story.
Thank you all so much for your kind words about my story. It was a very personal piece and I wrote it from the heart right on Christmas. I’m overwhelmed with the support and infinitely pleased that it registered so strongly with you, my friends/readers.
Super good dude keep it up
Raw, honest and beautiful!
Poignant reminder of the priceless gift of love, shared between us all too seldom; made even more special by the Christmas season. Love this.
