Not Human

July 2, 2015 2 Comments

Not Human

By Michelle Vongkaysone

I’m a woman, taught I’m beneath men. Weak. Worthless. A substandard being.

Not entirely human.

Like a toy, or cattle. A subhuman entity to control.

If I’m not human, what am I? Can’t I be something more?

Many mighty beings aren’t human. Goddesses, dragons, robots and such.

All together vengeful, wise and powerful. Commanders of all, subordinates to none.

If femininity entails inhumanity, can’t I be like them?

Can’t I rise above my status and oppressors, Improving on faults born of their ‘humanity’?

So, I honor them, bearing my ‘inhumanity’ to bring justice, wisdom and vengeance to a darkly ‘human’ world.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

I love your POV…I completely endorse your opinion that women are not “less than.” But that due to our biology…we may fulfill our destiny…even if we don’t agree.

Written like a true goddess. This is more essay than story though. You have a nice writing style, I would have liked you to actually tell me a story with a plot…one based on your insightful argument. Look forward to reading more from you.
