They were not in love. Love had silently left long ago. Today, both just wanted out after 30 years. Both were old and broken: He was partially paralyzed after a stroke and she had just undergone spinal surgery and couldn’t really walk; constant pain. Despite everything, they were sure: 30 years were enough. They would hire movers and leave. She would move in with a daughter and he would get a small apartment in the same building, hire more help. He would save money once the divorce was final. He would be happier eating in peace and watching TV without interruption.
