I put away my snack as Jane arrives at the park for our first date after meeting online. She’s brought her pooch. His eyes fetch mine when I say he’s the image of Sam. “Hi, Sammy!”
“Thor.”
Susan took our Lab when she left. The dog nuzzles me. I kiss his nose. “I miss you, too, Sammy.”
“Thor.”
I squint into the sunlight. “Susan?”
“Jane!” She tugs the leash.
The pooch, whining, trails behind her, doesn’t want to leave.
I take the jerky out of my pocket and bite off a chunk. “I’ll be right here, Sammy. I’m not going anywhere.”
Truly original and bitter-sweet.
Hello David,
Well done. Love the cliffhanger ending; many possibilities for one to ponder concerning possible outcomes developing from this awkward first date.
This poor, poor person!
Great job on the story!
