One by One We Send

April 11, 2022 2 Comments

By Jenna Daucunas

We’re greeted by the wide open skies of Wyoming, desolate and bare. Rainstorms in the distance, dark clouds with billowing white tops that illuminate the orange sunset. Antelope dot the rolling hills.

The steep cliffs and sharp limestone make the rock climbing feel impossibly hard, until we find our rhythm. One by one we climb the route, descending elated, passing the spark of excitement on to the next climber.

As we start the fire, thunder echoes through the canyon. Rain is coming but s’mores are a must. A quick assembly line ensues. We gobble them quickly and dash to the tents.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Wonderfully visual. I could smell the campfire from here!

Nice imaging. I do really like the story but I don’t know if you have experienced wide-open skies like we have here in Alberta. Mountains or trees or anything but endless flatland can go on forever. I love your ending, how you built up suspense and then ended with something as simple and wholesome as a sweet, tasty snack. Please keep writing stories like this.
