She sleeps with her arms wrapped tight around Foxy, drawing comfort from a small toy dog with one eye. What I wouldn’t give for an anchor like that right now. I would pick her up and have someone warm and real to wrap my own arms around, but I can’t. If she saw me in this state, she’d ask what was wrong, and I’d have to tell her. And neither of us is ready for that yet. Let her have one more night before she learns how her world has changed. Let her dream of her father, for both of us.
“One More Night” drew me in, and I started to care.
Hello Sean,
Very effective writing technique; utilizing a single paragraph with the narrator’s free-flowing thoughts conjuring the image of a sorrowful woman peering sadly down on her sleeping child and giving her one last night of peace.
Touching piece. Really liked it.
Simple writing moving gently to the touching ending. Bravo!
Beautiful writing! That ending just brings it all together. A very moving piece of microfiction.
What compassion…
Very moving. I felt as if I was in the child’s bedroom watching this bittersweet scene.
Beautiful and touching. You packed a lot of emotion into a short piece.
