“You’re my universe,” Dominic said, appealing to Emma’s first passion. “But our relationship is spinning out of control.”
She’d cheated on him again, away at a conference.
“Everything spins,” Emma said, twirling a finger. “Earth on its axis. The moon around it. Us flying around the spinning sun. Always been that way, from the first moment there was anything.”
“But things stay together.”
“The moon moves away two inches a year. Sun will swallow Earth. The whole universe is flying apart. One Big Rip.”
“It all seems so stable, constant, reliable.”
“Day to day, it is, Dominic. And that’s the beauty.”
