
Matthew wasn’t sure why his friends weren’t there. He checked his mapping program to confirm he’d entered the address correctly. It appeared he was in the right place.
Matthew went inside. The other patrons weren’t people he would ordinarily hang with. But online reviews had given the place a stellar rating, so he didn’t worry about it. Meanwhile, at a place across town with a similar name, Matthew’s friends wondered why he hadn’t shown up or responded to their messages.
Later, lying in the alley without cell phone, wallet, or watch, Matthew wondered if maybe the online ratings had been exaggerated.
The sheer understatement makes the story all the more powerful. I love it!
