Pannekoeken Huis

March 15, 2024 2 Comments

By Karen Mason

We go to Pannekoeken Huis, the Dutch restaurant, and wait for the nuclear medicine to travel through his blood.

He mentions he has been thinking about his legacy. My heart sinks. I don’t have a good response. The waitress yells, “Pannekoeken!” and sets down our Dutch apple pancake.

I mumble something about coming from so little and ending with so much. Starting a business…raising children…helping the grandkids with college.

Have I ruined the moment?

He takes a sip of coffee. His eyes tell me there could have been so much more.

“Can you feel the medicine working?” I ask.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

So much said with few chosen words. Lovely.

Stunning emotional depth! I was immediately and intimately involved in the story. I continue to linger there long after. Thank you!
