Pearls

Pearls

By Bonnie Wilson

Falling pearls—an acute reverberating sound on the rich, glossy hardwood that seems to last ages instead of seconds. Lovely, iridescent pieces of her life dropping to the floor, leading to this one elongated moment. Each pearl representative of every joyous, perfect, sad, decrepit moment of a life no more.

The joy of first love.

The perfection of life made.

The sadness of love lost.

The decrepitude of betrayal.

A diffused thud. Sounds of silk settling upon an almost corpse.

Dark, dying eyes, so beautiful in their surprise and misery, fall on familiar soft, sable shoes and pearls strewn in blood.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Wow. Had to read this twice. Wanted to read again. Great image of woman dying among her broken pearls. Pearls metaphor for life, draining. Nicely done.
