A male spotted deer, long apart from his herd, munches a mix of grasses, forbs, and leaves from a worn yellow bucket. Beside him stands a middle-aged man, a smile plastered across his bearded face.
Rays of evening sun filter through the trees, scattering a golden kaleidoscope across the ground below.
Behind them, a wooden cottage leans into shadow. One window stands open.
Inside the living room, along panelled walls, deer skulls hang—clean, pale, carefully arranged.
Catching the light in ways the living never do.
They sit in rows, silent witnesses to a past that still echoes with quiet atrocities.
Beautiful contrast!
That ending hit hard, especially “the living never do.”?
Things are not always as they seem.
Haunting!
Very much contemporary
Wow, the title says it all!
But if there are hunting animals nearby !
