“How much longer are you going to play with those things?”
They’d had this argument before, so he just flashed his brightest smile and waited for his wife to get through her tirade.
“They don’t listen to you or come when you call, and look at the mess they’ve made.”
He cocked his head and cupped his ear in the universal ‘listen to this’ gesture. The creatures were singing. The tiny sound was clear and captivating.
He looked over at this wife, raised an eyebrow, and smirked. The goddess sighed and pushed the blazing comet she’d been bouncing away from Earth.
Good intro, makes me want to read more.

I loved this take on the gods and their playthings on earth. I particularly liked ‘cocked his head and cupped his ear’. Very visual then auditory.

Hah! Loved the reveal at the end. And rereading it knowing who the pets are, the dialogue is extra great (and accurate). Very fun story.
I also enjoyed reading it a second time once I’d read the punchline
