Petty Revenge

May 9, 2024 9 Comments

By TJ Gadd

The man ahead of me in the queue approached the flight check-in lady behind the counter. They spoke for a few seconds before he roared, “I booked an eight-hour flight!”

The check-in lady patiently replied, “There are no eight-hour flights, sir. Maybe you misread?”

He cussed and swore, spittle flying in her face.

“There is no need to speak like that, sir.”

He continued to swear as he waddled away.

When it was my turn, I asked her, “How do you put up with people like that?”

She grinned. “He is going to London, and his bags are going to Sydney.”

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

    Hello TJ,
Well-contrived plot. So, lost luggage is a function of human retaliation for rude behavior. Sweet!!

    That’s an old joke:

A man approaches the check-in desk with three pieces of luggage. “I want this one to go to London, this one to Sydney, and this one to Hong Kong.”

The patient dsesk clerk looks at him and says, “Sir, we can’t do that.”

He replies, “Why not? You did it last week.”

Have not heard that. Brought a smile on a much needed rainy day.

when I was a teen, an airline lost all my luggage. a year later they found it and had the gall to demand I pay a huge storage fee. I was too ignorant to realize I could contest it, so lost all my books, journals, and memorabilia
