Pickle

By David Henson

Could she really bring him to his knees in seconds? he thinks, lowering his hand to his crotch. She’s asparagus-spear thin and a head of lettuce shorter, but maybe she knows judo. Or has a taser. Maybe he shouldn’t risk it. He stares red radishes at her; she looks jalapenos at him. As if handling a live grenade, he eases the last cucumber—the one he snatched from under her nose—back into the produce bin. Felt overripe anyway.

Pushing his cart down the aisle, he imagines she has a story to tell her grandchildren. And he has one he won’t.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Love the humor! Brings back memories of battles over the last avocado. Sigh.

Loved this. Good use of two POV’s that really worked and made the story.
    How two people see something.
