Without a second thought, Jasmine reached for the sharp knife. Everyone else just looked on, hesitating to say anything in case it caused another argument. Time was of the essence. She pushed everybody out of the way, unable to sit by knowing everyone else wanted to wait for tonight.
How could they resist? Why did we have to wait?
Mouthing to herself, “I deserve this,” she drove the sharp knife straight in.
Then again, it was her birthday. She knew she deserved the first slice of cake. That double–chocolate, cream–filled cake covered with strawberries. After all, she’d only be sixteen once.
Cute – entitled 16 yr old!
Very clever tale: family friction, ominous setting, a real birthday surprise.
