By Joel Nagy
We did not come as conquerors—we came as asylum seekers. Fleeing our war-torn home.
The natives, brutal savages as they were, relentlessly fought our progress to better this land. It was our manifest destiny that drove us to discover this world, to develop its full potential.
I write this log as our last record. The savages of this world have risen beyond their primitive means because one of our own gave them power not meant for their unclean hands.
I pray that this log finds home with my kin, far away, as a grave warning: ATTEMPT NO LANDING UPON TERRA.
Fun read. I was expecting the speaker to be a European colonist.
Yeah, the ending surprised me, too. Good story.
Good ending says me too.
Nice! I love endings that make me want to go back and reread immediately to recontextualize.
