Pitter Patter

March 22, 2022 1 Comment

By Joel Lee

Yesterday, as the wind howled its lonely tune and puddles slipped over darkened concrete, the pair danced in the rain. Windows fogged up and, for a minute, they paused the commotion of the streets. The boy was stomping his boots, swinging his arms to the rhythm of his mother’s as she explained the disco. Mother nature aside, in their rain-sealed eyes, they exchanged twirls of joy under occasional thunder. Watching them ignore the raging storms with eternal forgiveness, I only sought to sing along. Mad at the winds, I closed the blinds and rocked by the balcony alongside my throbbing heart.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

What an analogy mother explaining disco inside and mother Nature with occasional thunder outside! Nice it is, Joel.
