Poetic War

Poetic War

By Christos Tsagkaris

King Demetrius had been fighting his enemies for years, even though all his hope was disproved.

I saw him the night before the last battle traipsing between hope and hopelessness, walking up and down his tent. No one else was in there except for an awkward man, who was erasing and writing lyrics.

“Who are you?” murmured the king.

“Cavafis, sir. Just a poet, at your service.”

“A poet cannot help me! This is not the country I fought for. It’s the country of Heraklides and Valas!” sighed the king and the poet noted down the final phrase of his poem.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
