Pot Literature

By Mike Haran

A clatter of motorcycle engines running at low speed.  Red, helmet in hand, runs up the stairs. Russ—situated at the table—leans back, his open leather jacket revealing a hairy barrel chest.

“What you reading, man?” asks Red as he takes the joint from his friend. A hiss as he inhales the magic smoke. The twitter of  sparrows becomes more pronounced. A crow caws.

“The Hardy Boys,” answers Russ. “Ever read them?”

A time lapse, Red now miraculously back in the saddle. The motor emits a clatter, a throaty roar. “Read them all!” he screams as bikes roar around him.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

If I were a biker, I would surely say, “Hey, this stuff is true to life, man!” I’m not a biker but this story seems to me to be true to life. Anyway, it makes a good read.
