Ralph and Frodo

April 11, 2023 12 Comments

By David Sydney

Ralph took Frodo out for the morning walk. Frodo would have nothing to do with the maple tree a block down but would lift his leg to the oak at the following corner. After a few more weeks, Frodo had nothing more to do with the oak. He didn’t want to pee on that oak. Now it was a magnolia four blocks farther. Two weeks after that, it was an elm, three blocks more distant than the magnolia. Frodo wanted to see just how trainable Ralph was, and how far he’d go in his cheap sneakers before buying a better pair.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Great chuckle to start the day, and from my experience with dogs, oh so true.

Funny story. Think you train your dog? No, it’s really the dog who trains the owner.
