Depression means 101 steps to my morning.
To get out of bed
– Roll over: check.
– Ignore yearning for more sleep: check.
– Push myself up: check.
– Check my phone: check.
– Crawl out of bed: check.
To walk the dog
– Put on clothes: check.
– Get leash: check.
– Leash dog: check.
– Open door: check.
– Walk outside: check.
And so on.
My life is a checklist, marking off one day and the next, one little step at a time. Because it helps me to function and helps me to remember to wake up at all.
Very real. I’ve been there – even having to break taking a shower into steps. Most people have no idea what it takes for others to function.
Clear and precise. Relatable.
